Split City Center Apartments

We were a group of 11 from Hong Kong, checking into five rooms on July 26, 2017. The apartment is in the Old Town restricted zone, where room prices, payable only in Kunas, aren’t cheap. Our hired drivers found it easily but couldn’t legally take us inside, so we had to walk a few minutes with our luggage. There’s no lift. After check-in, the female receptionist and a gentleman carried some bags upstairs, but nobody offered help when we were coming down. The rooms are small but clean, and facilities are very basic. There was just one kettle at reception for everyone to use for hot water, even for cup noodles. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the nearest point of interest and about half an hour from the promenade. We bought food at a supermarket and had a very simple breakfast in the apartment’s public area the next morning. Luckily, our lead driver for the next leg was the same one who’d driven us there the day before, so we already had an understanding of what we looked like and where to meet.

The noise of woodworms chewing in the walls went on all night, which was awful. Staff refused to help when we told them, laughing it off and saying it might be “ghosts.” Split is really nice, but this place ruined our stay.

We couldn’t call to find out our room because we don’t have an international phone plan. There’s no place to check in, so you have to call them for the room details. Fortunately, a friendly resident let us use their phone. The room was large, but in the family room the extra bedroom is up in a loft. Getting to the room also meant climbing three long flights of stairs. Service was very poor.

A lovely place to stay with friends, and the owner was lovely too. It felt really homely. I’d recommend it for interrailing or backpacking.
