For our anniversary and first hotel stay in Okap, we picked Mont Joli. The entrance is beautiful and welcoming. The staff were friendly, attentive, and as helpful as they could be. They resolved our issues in a timely way, and I appreciate that. Breakfast was excellent. I hope Mont Joli stays strong in this country and improves, rather than using the country’s problems as an excuse. We chose this place for our vacation and deserve a fantastic stay for what we paid. Several things need attention. Managers should check each room and replace anything damaged before guests arrive. If something is clogged or leaking and will take time to repair, take the room out of service instead of waiting for a guest to find the issue. Please also check food and drink dates, temperatures, and preparation. I became ill, though we’d already made enough complaints and didn’t want to bother the kitchen. I’m not saying they wouldn’t have fixed it. We’re in an age where technology matters, so get the systems working. Orders at the bar should be charged to a room card on file instead of handled on paper. The pool was closed for reconstruction during our stay, even though we expected one after paying so much. An accommodation or something free would have been nice. They offered to put us in another hotel, but we didn’t know what it would be like or where it was, and we’d researched Mont Joli and decided to stay there. We also paid for a particular room, but they put another guest in it. That was their mistake, and moving us to a different room was chaotic and unacceptable. If we return to Okap, I hope Mont Joli will be better than it was for our anniversary trip this year.

The service was great, the price was low compared with nearby hotels, and there’s taxi service right outside. The bathroom was big for Haiti, the water pressure was good, and the toilet worked well. The pool was deep, so be careful if you can’t swim. It rained a lot during my stay, but the waiter was kind and very soft-spoken. The king bed was okay, though softer than I like. The place needs a few touch-ups, but the standard is acceptable for Haiti. I’d come back and recommend it.

The clean, simple room felt secure, and I was comfortable here for all four days. The grounds were lovely, the food was delicious, and the staff were amazing. From the hotel you can see most of the city and get a perfect sunrise view. You can hear the clubs down on the boulevard in the evening, but usually they aren’t too loud. My room had plenty of hot water and good pressure, though I heard the third floor’s pressure wasn’t as strong. It’s Haitian-owned, and this will be my preferred hotel in Cap-Haitien.

We only ate here, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The food was good, and the outdoor dining area looks out over the pool. Service was excellent, and the famous Haitian hot chocolate was, too. I’ve heard the hotel used to be a home, which makes the place feel really unique.

I was there in March 2022 and found the hotel clean and pleasant. Breakfast and service were both great. Since it’s up on a hill, it’s very quiet, and the view is amazing. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re traveling to Cap-Haïtien.
