The hotel felt much noisier and more stressful than the calm, beautiful city around it, and that contrast left a bad impression. Most nights we could hear people talking loudly and slamming doors in the corridor and nearby rooms through the thin walls and doors. The metal key tags clanked loudly whenever someone came or went. I called reception about the noise, but the response felt dismissive and nothing changed. In the mornings, housekeeping started between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., making plenty of noise without much thought for guests still asleep. Breakfast was a major letdown. We partly chose the hotel because Booking gave it very high breakfast ratings, but what we got was extremely poor and honestly embarrassing. There was almost no choice, and the only fruit looked old and neglected, with blackened bananas and grapes that didn’t look fresh. The quality overall felt low, with little effort put into it. The Wi-Fi was weak and unstable, and mobile data barely worked inside because the signal was so poor. The room had other basic comfort problems too: water pressure was so low that a normal shower, especially washing my hair, was difficult; the towels were small; the fridge was weak; and the TV was outdated. There were no spare pillows, duvets or bedding in the wardrobe, which surprised us for a hotel presented as four-star. The bathroom was disappointing as well. The shampoo and conditioner smelled unpleasant, there was nowhere proper to put toiletries, the door wouldn’t close properly, and the fan was extremely loud. Our stay was a big disappointment and didn’t match the hotel’s high online ratings.

We paid extra for breakfast expecting a good selection, but it was very disappointing: poor fruit, tomatoes that seemed almost plastic, few vegetables, low-quality cold cuts and really bad coffee. For the price, the quality was low. Noise was the main problem. The room door was thin and poorly sealed, so corridor light showed through and we could hear everything outside. By the third night it was unbearable, with noise every 10-15 minutes in the evening. We contacted reception, but got a cold response and no real action. Mornings were loud too, as cleaning staff talked, laughed and moved around in the corridor, all clearly audible with the door shut. The windows barely blocked street noise either, and garbage trucks came by early in the morning and again in the evening. It felt like noise was coming from both sides. There were comfort issues in the room: weak water pressure at the sink, shower and toilet, toiletries with an unpleasant smell, no space for personal items, and very thin pillows with no spares. The hotel didn’t meet our basic expectations for quiet and comfort, and it didn’t feel like a four-star place. From our experience, it was closer to two stars.

Our room could do with some updating, but it was clean, warm and comfortable enough for a short visit. The hotel is close to the metro on a quiet street, and the reception staff welcomed us. Breakfast was very good.

The broken boiler meant we had no hot water in our room for the whole three-night stay. We had to use the shower in the other wing, which was impractical and not what I’d expect at a four-star hotel. The receptionists tried to help and gave us a late check-out for free as compensation. We still enjoyed our stay, and the room was clean and nice. Breakfast had a good range and most of it was tasty. The reception staff, though, often didn’t greet us or even look over when we came in. They made small talk, but generally weren’t very kind. Still, it was alright.

On the second day of our family trip, we came back from an excursion and found that our daughter’s sneakers were gone. We knew she’d left them under the table because she chose to wear Crocs instead, and we’d been out all day. The manager didn’t offer much help, just said nothing like that had happened before. It happened to us, though. I’ve travelled through many countries and logged over 700,000 miles, and this is the first time I’ve had something stolen at a hotel. It cast a shadow over our 10-day European vacation. I’d suggest future guests keep important things, like passports and wallets, with them. We stayed for a few days on a family trip before going on to Vienna. The room was small, but the beds were fine to sleep in. The location was okay, near a trolley station.
