Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection

We spent five days at The Dorothea in January and would definitely stay again. Breakfast each morning was better than the usual restaurant breakfast, which stood out to me since I travel often for work. We also used the spa and were very happy with it. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the service from the staff was outstanding. The housekeeper especially was exceptional with the details.

During a recent stay for Budapest Fashion week, my MacBook charger went missing from my room. The way the hotel dealt with it was deeply disappointing. I was spoken to condescendingly, as if I'd simply misplaced it through my own "distraction," instead of them properly looking into what happened. Only the cable was returned after I insisted on a search, without the power brick, or "head." I understand that the missing piece is worth more than 50 euro, so they may be tempted to steal it, but I'm a loyal costumer and this is unacceptable. Mr. Ruslan Shikhov, Assistant Front Office Manager at Dorothea Hotel, Autograph Collection, Budapest, told me they'd investigated. I replied that they should check why their team feels the need and urge to steal guests' possessions. Losing the item was bad enough, but having my concerns brushed off made the experience worse. It's regrettable for a hotel of this caliber to have staff members who take guests' belongings, and for management to respond with such arrogance. A hotel at this value should protect its guests instead of downplaying incidents like this. I can't recommend it to anyone who expects professional service and personal property to be safe.

The rooms don't look out over the Danube, but that didn't stop us from having an excellent stay. They're spacious and comfortable, and the hotel has a lovely pool, spa, sauna, and steam room downstairs. The staff were attentive and friendly. The location is right in the heart of the shopping district, next to Madame Tussauds. Breakfast was a highlight, served in a beautiful, intimate space. Some cheeses and buffet items were pretty average, but the fresh juices, pastries, and especially the waffles were outstanding. The breakfast area itself was stunning, and the hotel has a great atmosphere and facilities.

The service stood out most. The staff were attentive, professional, and genuinely friendly, and I'd return without hesitation. Rooms were quiet, comfortable, spotless, and very well equipped. The central location is ideal, with elegant, thoughtfully put-together design throughout. The food, quality, and amenities were all top-notch.
