Mercure Budapest Castle Hill

The reception team were warm, kind, and professional. I forgot to get their names, and they may have been trainees, but they deserve a special thank you for their lovely service. My spouse and I came to Mercure Budapest Castle Hill for our anniversary and a day off, and the hotel made it feel special. They decorated the room beautifully and left wine, a thoughtful card, and fresh fruit for us. The complimentary minibar was another great touch, and it was refilled daily. Thanks to the whole team. I’d gladly stay again and recommend the hotel.

The room was a clean, modern base for our four days in Budapest, and it was easy to get around from the hotel, with metro and tram stops nearby. Reception staff were friendly and helpful whenever we spoke with them, and check-in was quick. Breakfast was included, but there wasn’t much variety. It was mostly continental, with some scrambled eggs. Still, it was enough for a quick bite and coffee. My main complaints are the pillows, which were hard and flat as pancakes, and the small bathroom. There was shampoo and body wash in the shower, but no conditioner. Even so, we were very satisfied with our stay at Mercure Castle Hill and would happily return.

Two things stood out in a good way: the breakfast buffet was lavish, and the apple juice was among the best I’ve tasted. Fisherman bastion is also walkable, and the view from the room was mind-blowing. The room was so small it felt like it started and ended in the same spot. There was hardly space to put luggage or move around, and the washroom was the tiniest I’ve ever seen. The receptionist wasn’t very friendly either. Honestly, I’m not sure how this place can be called four stars.

A few things could be better: there was no water in the room, and I hope it can be there before guests arrive. As an Accor All.com silver member, I expected more priority service, and bar spending didn’t earn points. That said, the evening receptionist, David, went out of his way to help us reserve a nearby restaurant even though it was late. All the staff were friendly. The IPA at the bar was excellent, and the bar stayed open until 11 pm. Amenities were up to standard, though some had to be requested. The location was handy, about a five-minute walk from Deli Train station and 17 minutes on foot from Fishermen Bastion. Breakfast at the bar was good too.
