I still love Budapest, but this was the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. My first impression inside the room was of a neglected, almost abandoned building, not somewhere being cleaned for guests. Dust and someone’s hair had clumped together and rolled across the floor. The closet was so dirty I couldn’t touch it, and its inner wood was badly peeled, making it unusable. The bedding was stained, while the yellowed pillows and blankets were covered in hair. One of the mattresses was badly broken, so my sister couldn’t sleep properly. I couldn’t believe I’d paid to sleep on it. The room listing also said there was air conditioning, but there wasn’t, and they need to correct that description as soon as possible. Opening the window brought in lots of bugs that crawled over my belongings and hovered around my face. The next night I kept it shut and it became unbearably hot, like a sauna. I wouldn’t recommend staying here at any time of year, especially in summer. No matter how cheap a hostel is, it still needs to be clean. The manager must have seen plenty of reviews, so I don’t understand why the place hasn’t improved.
