Smart Carrara Apartments

A good spot, with historical places nearby.

The apartment itself looked nice at first, but there were several problems. Every shower flooded the bathroom, and the lift only worked once. Our third floor felt like a construction site, with loud banging at all hours of the night. There was also human urine on the landing of some stairs. We arrived to a completely dark building and only learned after calling reception that check-in and key pickup were at the hotel farther down the road. That hadn't been mentioned when we booked. My partner and I stayed here on holiday, and I'd recommend doing your research before booking.

We chose an apartment for New Year's Eve in Budapest, at about the same price as nearby hotels, but the condition let us down. It was worn and partly damaged, and noise was an issue. The living room got unbearably hot for sleeping, with no way to adjust the temperature, while the bathroom radiator didn't work. The little kitchenette had what we needed, but there was no storage beside the bed. The bathtub was badly designed and left everything soaked. Cleaning staff took our empty bottles without asking. We also had to go to a hotel five minutes away for the keys and breakfast, something nobody had mentioned in advance. Breakfast was okay, though the place sometimes ran out. Next time I'd choose a hotel.

The room, really a small apartment, came with a washing machine and even a detergent tablet, a nice extra. It was clean, and the staff were helpful. The center is perhaps a little far away, but still manageable by public transport.
