Unity Hostel at Udvar(rom)

The online photos on Hostelworld or booking.com don’t look like the place in real life, and there’s no mention that the rooms are right above a very loud bar. I couldn’t fall asleep until around 4am. When I asked to move to the room shown online, one staff member said those pictures were from another location of the hostel, while someone else said they showed an AirBnb next door. The rooms were disgusting, with stains on the walls and beds, a filthy smell and atmosphere, dirty bathrooms without basic amenities, and unhelpful staff. Užas. Wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy. It’s a very classic scam.

The lockers are tiny, really only big enough for documents, so your backpack or suitcase has to stay by the bed. I liked having a lift, dining room, and laundry facilities, and the location was great. I stayed three nights in a renovated room, with AC and a very comfortable bed.

The location is the big plus here. Still, for the price I expected more. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms, so they can get really hot, and the kitchen is so small it’s honestly not suitable for cooking.

The staff were the highlight for me, all courteous and caring. Krisztina, the manager, is a sweetheart and really dedicated. The hostel’s on the Pest side in a good district for staying up late and sleeping through the day. There’s an awesome multiroom bar downstairs with a DJ, dance floor, and places to grab food. Sometimes the main bar has live music too, which brings the place to life. Other clubs are just a few blocks away, and you can find food almost everywhere at nearly any hour.
