Breakfast can get very crowded, and lunch and dinner are served at a separate restaurant about a 5-10 minute walk away. The place itself is cute, with two hot tubs and a small sauna. Our room was clean, and the bathroom looked lovely.

We had a comfortable setup with two rooms joined together for the four of us, and the rooms were nicely designed and good quality. Compared with other four-star places, that rating seems fair. We paid almost €1,000 for three nights. The food was a letdown. Breakfast felt more like a bed and breakfast, with almost no cereal, fish, or special items you might expect at a four-star hotel in a developed country. There were scrambled eggs on day two, but not the first day. Lunch and dinner were okay, though nowhere near four-star quality. The €3,000 HUF per person price might explain why the meal wasn't expensive, but they could have charged €5,000 HUF and served something better. You can order from the restaurant menu too, but only €2,000 HUF of the €3,000 HUF you paid is counted toward it. Main courses cost as much as, or more than, at a good restaurant in Budapest, and the quality didn't justify the price. Drinks aren't included. Service also fell short. At four-star hotels abroad, staff usually greet you warmly and ask how they can help or what you're planning. Here, we got little or nothing beyond a quiet hello. For a boutique hotel, I expected more. I haven't lived in Hungary for a while, but I remember service being poor in many places and friendliness hard to find.

The hotel is surrounded by forest, in a really lovely area, and its modern rooms are very nice. There's a jacuzzi and sauna in the garden, though they often aren't available because they need to be checked in advance. Ask the staff whether they're open before you come. The restaurant is 300 m from the hotel.

There are plenty of outdoor activities nearby, and the hotel is close to the center of Matrafured.
