Lugas Wellness Hotel

We came with a small child and picked a larger room with a double bed and sofa, but had to shove the sofa beside the bed so all three of us could sleep. There was loads of dust behind it. Housekeeping cleaned that spot when we called, and the photos show how different the carpet looked there from the rest. The mattresses were stained, badly sagging and worn; the double bed was two singles pushed together. We woke up with back pain every morning. The bathroom fixtures were filthy and covered in limescale. The fridge freezer was nearly taken over by a thick layer of ice, and cold air came into the room even with the balcony door shut. There was no soundproofing. The restaurant downstairs looked quite nice and the food was excellent, especially the à la carte menu. Bowling and billiards were decent too. Breakfast was weak, though acceptable for a 3-star hotel. The young staff were polite, and that's why I'm not giving one star. The pool area was chaos, especially over the weekend, with Sunday evening the worst. The spa is open to the public and rules didn't seem to be enforced: people drank alcohol and spilled it in the pool and jacuzzi, women went in with long hair uncovered, and people jumped into an already small pool. There was far too much noise and no discipline. A dirty cloth sat at the pool edge for all three days. Our child got skin irritation from the water. The saunas were okay, but poorly lit. We chose this place because it's the only hotel in the area with a child-friendly spa and is near the zoo, and some reviews looked fairly good. The ground floor restaurant was pleasant, but the accommodation floors felt like a trip back to the 1990s, with old carpet on the floors and walls. My mother speaks Hungarian and briefly talked with spa visitors. Someone said they'd been coming for 30 years and nothing had improved. They said it had apparently been a luxury hotel when it opened in the 1990s. Now maintenance and cleanliness seem neglected. Management and investment get zero from me. I won't come back under any circumstances.
