I stayed for two weeks, paid in advance, and ended up leaving early without getting my money back. The place had a really bad vibe and felt extremely negative. The room and sheets were dirty, and for some nights there wasn't even a top sheet. The owner seemed not to care about maintaining the property or its appearance. He drank a lot and got into verbal arguments with guests. Some nights, he and his girlfriend had sex loudly for hours, loud enough to hear clearly from my room and by the pool. It was awkward and horrifying. The situation felt volatile, possibly because of how much alcohol he and his girlfriend seemed to drink. Sad.

Mr. Chicken was very friendly, helpful, and courteous, and the homemade breakfast was lovely. The homestay is also really close to Ubud. But the rooms looked better in the photos, and the bathrooms were run down and not very clean. They were okay for a short stay, though, and it is not Germany. I was traveling alone as a woman, and Mr. Chicken kept wanting to hug me. I don't know if that was because I was alone or if he does the same with other guests. It felt very strange and unpleasant. I think the place is definitely recommendable if you aren't traveling alone. I arrived around 6 pm after a delayed flight, tired and expecting to check in, but nobody was there and the homestay was closed. It was my first homestay and my first stop. Luckily, his neighbor was around and gave me a room for the night.
