The fish pond right outside the rooms was an unexpected treat for me. Its steady running water felt calming and even helped me sleep, though light sleepers who notice background noise may want to bear that in mind. The rooms and lobby have a consistent, well-kept traditional Javanese interior, so staying at Sekar Arum feels like being in a carefully maintained Javanese home, rather than somewhere pretending to be modern. It’s right behind Maranatha University in Bandung, with generous parking. The staff were welcoming, and the Wi-Fi was surprisingly fast and stable for a place like this. Everything was spotless despite the clearly dated, non-contemporary furniture, which older properties don’t always manage. The TV is the one thing that could use an update. It’s still a CRT with a decoder box, though if you choose this kind of place, TV probably isn’t what you’re here for. This is a good fit for travelers who care more about character, cultural atmosphere, and quiet comfort than modern amenities.

The room felt homey, clean, and fragrant, and there was a water dispenser. Koi fish, birds, and Javanese ornaments and design added to the atmosphere. It’s a good-value guest house for a family trip in Bandung, with a strategic location not too far from central city attractions. Breakfast only had three choices, fried rice, chicken porridge, and omelette, but it was good. There’s also a second-floor cafe serving ice cream and coffee.

We had room 1, near reception. It was comfortable and clean, but the bird cages are close by, so you’ll hear the birds singing at night too 😅 If that sound doesn’t bother you, it’s the best room here. The place is simple and clean, and surprisingly quiet despite being behind a big campus area. We were really happy to find it, since good places around here can be hard to come by. It feels like a comfortable home, a real hidden gem in Bandung. The owner was friendly and helpful. Breakfast has a wide choice, from Indonesian food like chicken porridge, Soto Bandung, and fried rice to western-style bread and eggs.

I’m always happy to come back to Sekar Arum. This is my second stay, and whenever I’m in Bandung I’ll stay here again. The guest house is super clean, affordable for what it offers, and easy to get to from the city. I love the architecture and interior, and Mbak Titin at reception is wonderful 👍 My favorite is always double deluxe room no 9, with its little veranda right in front.
