Holiday Hotel

This place worked for me as somewhere to sleep. There were baby cockroaches and the sink was dirty, but staff cleaned it after I brought it up. They also replaced the bed cover after I pointed out cigarette burns. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there are food shops right beside the hotel. My experience was fine for a short stay, but I wouldn’t choose it for a long holiday.

I don’t think it’s worth the price. Then again, I feel that way about most hotels in Batam. For some reason they seem to expect tourists to pay just because their rates are similar. They don’t realize tourists can simply choose not to visit Batam. That’s why, in my view, Batam never progresses and is getting abandoned.

We were in the family suite on level 3, room 327, with one king bed and one single bed. A side door connected to another room, but there was no sound blocking and a large gap under it. Heavy smokers filled the corridor with smoke. The floor was supposed to be non-smoking, so why did management let a group of men in light blue PT uniforms and a visitor hang around by the side door, coughing and smoking until 12.30 at night? When I said I’d complain at checkout, they suddenly all left. Management never sent anyone to check the hotel and maintain its image. There were motorbikes revving at midnight, and plenty of bad attitudes and habits in the surrounding area. No shampoo, only a bar of soap.

The first room had no window, a dirty floor, and leftover snacks. We asked to change rooms, but the linen in the next one was also very dirty, with lots of hair left on it. We were meant to stay two nights, but decided to move.
