Seulawah Resort And Cafe

Whenever I travel to East Java, I make a point of staying at this resort in Kota Batu. It has such a comfortable, home-like feel that I can happily spend the whole day there. The views are peaceful and beautiful, especially at sunrise. I could just keep watching it every day. Come experience the place for yourself, you won’t regret staying here. 😍😍😍

The standard room was a letdown, though I can’t say how the villa rooms compare. The bed was mediocre, the pillow rock hard, there was no hot water despite it being listed, and the shower was broken. The only amenities were towels and a toothbrush with toothpaste. Noise was another problem: I could hear people talking from the second story, and noises from the room above kept me awake. Breakfast was mediocre too, with nothing special, and by the time I ate late, the food was completely cold. I didn’t try the pool, but it seemed fairly well managed. The first impression had been great. The gardens were incredibly well maintained, the staff friendly, and the atmosphere lovely, with incredible scenery next to the paralayang landing spot. At certain points you can actually see someone gliding overhead. Prices are affordable, and there are standard rooms and villa rooms, making it suitable for a family or couple on a budget. It might work for a quick crash if you can put up with the drawbacks. If you need a good night’s rest and a good stay, this isn’t it.

The price is reasonable, and the room was okay. Clean, at least. But if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, don’t come here. Our room was only a few meters from the pool and playground, and even on weekends they were busy from 6 a.m. It was worse than a zoo, with everyone making noise, not just kids. The room isn’t soundproof. We stayed four days and couldn’t rest every day, or use the pool because it was dirty. They blamed the rainy season, but we don’t think that was the reason. Cleaning just comes down to discipline. There was no coffee heater in the room, so you had to ask for one. Room service needed constant reminders to the front office. One day we asked at noon, left for the whole day, and returned at night to find the room exactly as we’d left it. The front office said, “we already cleaned it.” I don’t think it was the cleaning team’s fault, more like miscommunication and bad management. Still, we shouldn’t have to keep asking. And there was NO WIFI AT ALL! If you need to work from home, find a cheap hotel and spend the day in a cafe instead, it’d be just as pleasant for the same price. They only did something about the Wi-Fi after we’d complained all the time for three days. Also, the wastafel at the restaurant really needs attention.

The rates were fantastic, about IDR 200k per night, and the staff were so friendly. I loved the clean, comfortable room and the view from the restaurant. We stayed two nights, Jan 7-9 2018, and I can’t wait to return. My scores: rates 10/10, service 10/10, view 9/10, room 8.5/10, and breakfast 7/10. The water heater in the room sometimes didn’t work.
