The Satwa Elephant Ecolodge

Wildlife sightings made our three nights at Satwa Elephant Eco Lodge feel special. Sometimes we trekked for an hour or two before seeing anything, but the wait paid off, and each animal in its natural surroundings felt like a small win. The Park Rangers were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly cared about conservation. The lodge is quiet and remote, with a rustic, eco-friendly feel that puts you close to the rainforest. Staff were very accommodating. It isn't a luxury stay, but for adventure and wildlife, it was a memorable way to experience the Sumatran jungle. Pack bug spray, sunscreen, and light long sleeves and pants. Mosquitoes weren't much of an issue in mid-May, though that could depend on the season.

Harry, reachable through Satwa Lodge, knows and cares a lot about Way Kambas. He and his team were really helpful in showing us the wildlife around the park. The grounds are lovely and well kept, and the food is freshly made and fantastic. Definitely try the chicken satay. The accommodation is fairly basic, with no AC, but there's a big bed, free amenities, and a hot shower if you want one in the heat. A real pleasure to stay here. I'd come back, 10/10.

Prices have gone up without any improvement to the facilities, and there don't seem to be as many guests now. Staff aren't getting enough extra service fees. The food isn't as good as it used to be either, maybe because they're limiting the food budget. Just so you know, staff salaries are very low, so it's a good idea to bring cash for tips.

A nice, cozy place for an overnight stay, right in the village buffer area of Way Kambas National Park. It works well as a base for exploring the Park or nearby villages. The staff are friendly and very helpful, and airport transfers are available for an extra charge when needed.
