Maison Aurelia Sanur, Bali - by Préférence

The beds were the most comfortable, the rooms were very clean and suited our family well. Great location and service, and the price was affordable. The pool isn't resort-style and there aren't lush gardens, but that was fine for us. We'll be back!

I liked the colonial feel, and the location was great. The rooms are big and very clean, though they're starting to show some age and wear. From my top-floor room I barely heard guests in the hallway or other rooms. The nightly turndown service was a nice detail, and the staff were friendly. The air conditioning was very loud, just as other reviews had mentioned. The pool area is small, with few shaded cabanas, and the loungers were in the sun when I visited, but it does the job. Cork Restaurant is connected to the hotel but isn't part of it. They have a room service arrangement and give hotel guests a small discount. I've eaten there several times on past visits; the food is still good, though I miss some of the old menu items. I'd recommend the hotel and come back, even with the noisy air con.

The big rooms were a welcome change after three nights on a wooden boat in the Komodo Islands, and the kids loved the pool. It was kept in great shape, with lemon water, games, toys, and beach towels always there. The kids also looked forward to the chocolates and cookies left in our rooms each night. Free bikes were available from 0900-1800, and the staff were lovely and quick to help when I kept forgetting which of our two rooms I was in. We booked two rooms on the top floor, on the same level but not beside each other, and initially got only one key for each room, so we had to ask for more. The Wi-Fi in the rooms was unreliable, though it worked well by the pool. Music from the restaurant downstairs could carry on until around 10pm, especially on weekends. We chose the hotel for the final part of our Bali trip and only wanted some pool time and beach walks. It suited us perfectly for that.

My daughter and son had a great time at the spa, and the pool was wonderfully peaceful. Breakfast was decent too. This was my second stay in the Magnolia room, and it still feels like home. Visiting during Nyepi worked out really well. I’d happily come back to Sanur Beach again.
