The pool was dirty and uninviting, with stained walls and tiles around it. The photos on Booking.com also looked nothing like the actual property, and were completely misleading. This stay fell far below basic hospitality standards. It shouldn’t be rented in this condition, and I strongly advise people to avoid booking until it’s had a thorough deep clean and significant maintenance. The place was in an appalling state when we arrived, with cracking walls, stained tiles, and a general feeling of neglect. The toilet floors were visibly dirty, and there were insects around, including bugs right on the toilet seat. There was rubbish still in the unit, including a food packet stuck to the air conditioning unit, so it clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned before our arrival. The sheets were visibly stained, and sitting on the couch left our skin itchy, which strongly suggested it hadn’t been cleaned or maintained hygienically.

The villa sits on a quiet dead-end street, with cafes about 2 minutes away and shops and minimarkets nearby. It takes 15-17 minutes to walk to the sea, crossing a busy road and then finding the beach path through the hotels. There are three bedrooms, a living room, a hall, and a kitchen, all decorated in Balinese style with lots of local ornaments and paintings on the walls and tables. Everything worked, from the plumbing and hot and cold water pressure to the air conditioners, which kept the villa cool. The kitchen was well equipped with a gas stove, large refrigerator, pots, pans, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, cutlery, and water cooler. The pool is small but deep, good for a dip. Outside there’s a small area with a terrace and chairs, the pool, and a lawn. The gate doesn’t lock. We contacted the owner in advance, and he met us at 1:30 PM with the keys, then showed and explained everything.
