We had a really enjoyable stay at Volcano Valley in the last week of December. It’s peaceful and quiet, with the warm, helpful feel of a family-run place. The meals were very good and affordable, and it made a comfortable base near Mt Batur. A heads-up for anyone visiting: we encountered flies everywhere, especially outside, and they were more intense than we expected. It seems to be a known issue around Kintamani, not the property’s fault. Bring strong repellent.

The owner went out of his way to help us, sorting out food delivery, arranging our Mount Batur trek, and even getting a scooter fixed. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. We stayed two nights before climbing, and the clean, comfortable, quiet hotel was just what we needed to rest after the hike. You can tell they care about their guests. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone climbing Mount Batur.

The cabins are spacious and clean, at the north end of the lake. Breakfast is included and brought to your room. Dinner choices are somewhat limited, though the food is tasty and inexpensive. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They can also arrange sunrise or daytime jeep tours and onward transport at good prices. We went on to Amed. A great option if you’re staying in the Mount Batur caldera.

The husband and wife who run the place provide lovely service, and the home-cooked meals are very reasonably priced. When you unlock the door, the room feels like home, neat, tidy, clean, and really comfortable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
