Bale Hostel

I only stayed one night, and the price felt fair. The staff were really friendly, and the basic rooms were clean. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the restaurants and main area, which is a great location. There’s free water, coffee, and tea, and you can book tours and ferries here too. Breakfast was just a pancake, so pretty minimal, but fine for the price. It got a little noisy in the evening, there were a few mosquitoes in my room, and there are no curtains.

We rented a scooter for three days and left it parked overnight. The next morning it was “gone,” and oddly, that was the only day the owner asked where it was. We got no help, no insurance, and no tracker. It seemed set up so the tourist ends up paying. We heard similar stories from other people at our hotel, so it feels like an organized scam. They’re thieves. I never leave reviews, but this time I had to. Don’t go there.

I’d happily come back. The place is relaxed and flexible, the scooters are the cheapest in town, and breakfast is a pancake every morning. The rooms are simple but nice, with AC. Bring mosquito spray!

We moved here from another hostel when a third person joined us, and had such a great stay that we wished we could’ve stayed longer. The huts were roomy and comfortable, and the bathroom had plenty of space with a powerful hot shower. Breakfast pancakes were incredible. Having kitchen facilities was a big plus when we had our own food. Anul, our host, was especially helpful when one of our guests had a scooter problem. His family were incredibly sweet and helpful too. Bale Hostel is a hidden gem in Kuta.
