Hotel Ayu Beach Inn

There’s a warning for anyone booking here: a huge new hotel is being built behind the property, and the noise starts around 0730. We arrived in the evening at the time we’d given through booking.com, but they seemed surprised to see us. The family room we’d booked wasn’t available, so we were split across two rooms, one with no AC. The pool area was dusty and strewn with rubbish and rubble. There was litter all along the corridors, and the rooms were tired and dirty, with drawers full of trash left by previous guests. The bathroom seemed okay at first, but smelled and wasn’t clean. It may be cheap, but it wasn’t good value. We found a much better hotel down the road for the same money. We paid almost £20 a night for something worth £10. I’ve stayed in all sorts of hotels over the years and this was definitely poor value.

I paid in full online, but when I arrived to check in, they demanded another payment equal to 100% of what I’d already paid. If they wanted to cancel my booking, they should have done it before the day. I’ve never heard of an airline or hospitality business doing this. I booked somewhere else on the check-in day, even though that cost me more, and of course I expect a refund. I was furious at having to find another hotel about 30 minutes before check-in, when most places were unavailable. Don’t book here.

I was silly to book even one night after people have been complaining about the rooms for the past ten years. What a waste of money and time. The rooms aren’t hygienic: the walls were dirty, the beds were filthy, and there were no toilet paper, bin, or towels 😭. Don’t take your family there.

At check-in, the man at the counter said our online payment wasn’t enough. He offered a room with AC on a lower floor if we paid more, or an upper-floor room without AC. He deliberately put us in a room with no AC because, he said, we’d paid less online. Horrible staff and a horrible stay. They give you one price, then add double when the bill comes. I wouldn’t recommend it.
