Legian Village Hotel

We only spent a couple of nights at The Legian Village Hotel, but the staff made us feel welcome, and we had a good stay. There are lots of cats around, mostly lazing about. The kittens haven’t quite learned the unspoken rules yet, so you’ll hear them asking to be fed. We weren’t sure if the cats were strays the hotel lets hang around, perhaps to keep rodents away, or if they live there. We later found out that Sabbi was more or less adopted after guests insisted she stay. She’s terrified of mice and rats, which is quite something. The other cats just joined in, much to Sabbi’s chagrin. No idea whether they’re any better with rodents. The place has a relaxed feel, with paths, trees, greenery, and water features. We’d heard about it and decided to drop in for a closer look and a meal at the Bar and Grill, which is open to everyone. The menu has a decent range. We fancied fried chicken, but they didn’t serve it, so we ordered wings instead. They were excellent for the price. Diners can use the pool, though outside food and drinks aren’t allowed. I’m not sure how strictly that rule applies to hotel guests, but naturally it doesn’t apply to your room. After a quick chat with duty manager Wally, we arranged a couple of nights’ stay, thanks also to the owner, whom we met. Our room had a large double bed, TV, fridge, coffee-making facilities, bathroom with a bath and shower, and plenty of storage. The storage seemed unusual at first, but many guests stay for about a month, and the very helpful staff become like their vacation family. Guests know all their names. That’s the sort of place it is. Breakfast is served from 7-10 and can be added to your booking. It’s a buffet, with an egg station staffed by a chef, and gentle East Asian music playing. Later in the day the music shifts to more of a party mood. There are live singers in the evening, and how good they are can be hit or miss. Western hits are the usual fare. If you like being in the middle of everything while still having trees, greenery, and water features around you, The Legian Village comes highly recommended.
