About 50 m off busy Legian Street, the hotel feels like a well-kept tropical retreat, with a nice pool and bar. The garden, neatly cut lawn, and old trees held up with wooden supports make a welcoming first impression. I stayed here once about 20 years ago, and they’re doing their best to keep it current. They’re renovating the rooms, and the newer ones are almost impeccable. It suits families and solo travellers, with good value for the price.

There are a couple of things that could use an upgrade, particularly the bath towels and kettle. Still, it’s a lovely place. The staff are polite and helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble when we asked. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the location is great. Food from the restaurant at the back of the hotel was delicious and served hot.

The pool and its bar were great, and the rooms were really nice. The staff were so happy and friendly, too. We got upgraded to a Deluxe room because of the renovations, and couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. Definitely coming back, and I’d recommend this hotel.

Matahari Bungalows is a little hidden gem on Legian St in Kuta. The gardens, grounds, and pool are kept immaculate, and there’s a good breakfast at affordable prices. Rooms are spacious and have what you need for a good night’s sleep. From the front desk and cleaners to the gardeners, restaurant, and pool staff, everyone greeted us with a welcoming smile. You’re met with one as soon as you arrive at the check-in counter. Worth a visit, I’m sure you’ll love it.

The gardens and the way the property is kept give it a peaceful tropical feel. Our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully presented, a lovely place to come back to after a busy day. Every staff member we met was warm and happy to help. They really went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable and looked after. The service, rooms, and presentation all exceeded what we expected. We’d happily return to Matahari Bungalow and highly recommend it.
