Anda Restaurant is my favorite place to eat in Kuta. It looks out over Kuta Mandalika, with a spectacular view, and Athar is an excellent chef. The prices are very reasonable too. The hotel’s good as well, with spacious rooms, a huge swimming pool, and friendly, helpful staff.

I’d avoid the restaurant. The ayam taliwang had no taste, and the western dishes were bland too.

You can reach the main strip in under five minutes on foot, and the beach is right across the road. There’s an M-Mart outside for cold drinks, since the rooms don’t have fridges. The pool is small for the number of villas, though we only ever saw two to four people using it at a time. The rooms are big and were cleaned, but they’re old and the bathroom needs some work. The shower head was broken, tiles were broken, and a few times cockroaches dropped from the ceiling or came up the drain while I was showering. It didn’t bother me much since it’s a tropical grass-roof hut and I expect some wildlife. The villas on the right back onto the road and aren’t insulated, so motorbikes sound like they’re inside until things quiet down around 10 or 11 pm.

We booked four nights but left early because of the traffic noise from the road behind. The small, run-down pool area was another letdown, with just four broken sun loungers and cracked tiles around the pool that could be hazardous. I also saw staff lying on the loungers during the day, though they were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and very large, with great air conditioning, but it was very dark, with few windows and little lighting. The shower was a miserable trickle because its head was broken, and there was no fridge for drinks. The hotel is right opposite the beach, though the rubbish makes it less than ideal for swimming. Restaurants and cafes are an 800 m walk on flat ground, but some parts are uneven and unpaved, which could be an issue for people with accessibility needs.

The pool was magnificent, and the bed was comfortable. I stayed four nights in August. The room was cleaned daily to a good standard, and the shower worked well. TV reception was terrible, though that didn’t bother me, and the WiFi was spotty at times but good overall. There was sometimes a poo smell from the toilet or bathroom, but keeping the loo lid and door shut made it okay. Staff were friendly and helpful, though you need to ask for pool towels. They offer a basic breakfast for an extra fee upstairs, where the restaurant has great views and usually a nice breeze. Motorbike hire was 80000 IDR per day. Two convenience shops are right next door, and the main area of Kuta is an easy walk.
