Bajo Sunset Hostel

I was only there for one night, but the staff's service was excellent. They picked me up at the airport, brought my online food order right to my room, and the security staff responded quickly and attentively when I was followed by a stalker. Facilities are one-star standard, so it suits backpackers. Music from a nearby restaurant or bar can make the nights noisy. I'd recommend sleeping with earplugs.

I stayed two nights, first on 3 April before sailing and then again on 7 April after getting back from a three-day, two-night trip. They let me check in at 1:15 pm when they heard I'd just returned, which was kind of them. The room and bathroom were basic but comfortable enough, and the water was clean. Staff were friendly, and the price was okay. The hostel is right by the port, with lovely sunsets, but there's no Wi-Fi. I didn't try the pool because I wasn't sure about it, and the restaurant doesn't serve lunch or dinner. For food, check prices clearly or look online. Avoid the seafood court called Kampung Ujung, at the port corner with the big white umbrellas, tables, and chairs. It's easy to spot as a scam. Mornings can start early too: it's close to TPI (Tempat Pelelangan Ikan), where fishermen and fisherwomen sell their catch, and the shouting and banging begins early. Some sellers drive around with loudspeaker ads, including a glasses seller in a pickup. At night, the nearby bar behind Bajo Sunset Hostel plays live music from about 8 pm until 1 am, so look elsewhere if noise bothers you. Grab or Gojek bikes, but not cars, are handy to and from the airport, especially without a large suitcase. It was about 12k idr, compared with nearly 300k idr for a taxi or a car booked through T******** app. A decent place to stop over if you can handle the noise.

The beds and linens were very clean, and the staff were warm and accommodating. We also loved the resident dog. For the price, the facilities did the job. The bathrooms could use improvement, though, so I wouldn't suggest it to someone new to hostel stays. The pool wasn't very clean, and there wasn't much of a social feel. I think that may improve as tourism picks up after the pandemic. We had a pleasant stay and found it good value.

The hostel is in a great spot, right across from the sea, and the staff were helpful. Breakfast, a pancake, was included in my booking. I stayed one night; the room was enough for one person and comfortable for resting, with standard facilities. A few things need attention: it didn't smell very fresh, the toilet flush wouldn't work, and the sink tap had weak water flow. Those could be improved.
