Lembongan Cempaka Villa & Restaurant

The villa’s just a very short walk from Mushroom Bay. Go up the stairs and walkway at the south end of the beach, straight to the top, and it’ll be on your left, marked by red roofs. There’s a convenient Warung next door for lunch or dinner, with plenty to choose from and competitive prices. You can also hire scooters from the villa. The peaceful rooms had lovely smelling sheets, and the grounds and pool area were clean and beautiful. Hearing the birds singing early in the morning was a wonderful way to start the day, and the staff were very attentive. Arrange breakfast a day ahead so they can have the ingredients ready and get you served sooner.

The location in mushroom bay was really convenient, just a short walk from mushroom beach and sunset point. The staff were very accommodating and sorted out scooter hire and our laundry. My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable four-night stay. The rooms were clean, tidy and welcoming, and the pool was a lovely place to relax after a day of exploring. We’d highly recommend it.

What a disappointment. The photos and some of the reviews made this place look lovely, though we had also seen a few complaints about damp and mold in one or more rooms. Before booking, we asked to avoid a damp or moldy room. While we were taking the boat over from Nusa Penida, I contacted the property to arrange a transfer. They said they would, but never confirmed a driver. After getting off the boat, we messaged the host repeatedly with no reply, so we had to haggle with another taxi driver. We were given an upstairs room, but the AC didn’t work. They offered a downstairs room, but all three were disgusting, with damp and mold everywhere. One had no key to lock the door. Why offer a room without a key? I’ve never experienced anything like it. Each room we were shown immediately made me feel dirty, the air was damp, the sheets were stained, and mold was growing out of the headboard. In five months of travel, this was the first time we didn’t want to stay somewhere. We left, asked for a refund and found a beautiful villa five minutes down the road. For somewhere nice in the same area, stay at THE LUCKY COTTAGE. It costs a little more but was ten times better in every way. To the owner: reinvest in the property. The business could be beautiful if you took better care of the details. Put some love back into it so people don’t leave with bad reviews and refunds.
