Rote Beach Bungalows

The bungalows and Salt Villa all have full ocean views, so you can watch the sunset right from your doorstep. I spent two weeks at Rote Beach Bungalows, waking up to beautiful views and a perfect longboard break out front. The owners and staff are the kindest, and everything gets a 10/10 from me. It’s become one of my favourite places in the world. I can’t recommend it enough and can’t wait to return!

The hosts have decades of experience in Rote and know the surf incredibly well. There’s also a private boat with a highly skilled captain, which is essential for getting through the seaweed farms out front on the way to the waves. The local and Australian families who run the place together create a warm, village-like feel, and the food is excellent when you ask for it. Also, probably the coolest dog in Rote is on site! The beachfront setting has incredible views throughout. Rooms have a nice mix of rustic character and comfort. I stayed a month and can’t think of anything else you’d want for a surf trip or beach holiday. Highly recommend, 11/10.

We booked 7 Nights at the Saltvilla Bungalow and stayed 17 because we liked it so much. It’s quiet, cozy, clean, and surrounded by lovely people. Mince was always avaible, and Alex, the private boat captain, took us surfing. Having our own boat and captain was great, so we didn’t have to go to the harbour each time. The solar-powered warm shower water was a big plus. My favourite place to relax with a book was the hammock in the frontyard. The kindest neighbours showed us around and welcomed us into the community. I’ll definitely come back!

A quiet, beautiful place right by the beach, with what I think are the best sunsets in Indonesia. The family vibe and hospitality are lovely. Highly recommended for solo travellers and couples.
