D' Kubon Penida by ABM

We booked through Booking under the name Kutampi Penida Resort, but when we arrived, it turned out to be D’Kubon Palace in a completely different location from the one shown. Nobody answered the contact number from the booking. We only found the place because our taxi driver asked at a nearby accommodation. The room was in awful shape and nothing like the listing photos. It looked as though they'd only swept the floor. There was an empty beer bottle in the nightstand drawer and another in a cabinet, a bracelet on a wardrobe shelf, and rice inside the tissue box. The glass panel in the bathroom door was covered with dead mosquitoes. It was unhygienic and disgusting. The woman who greeted us was friendly, but kept pushing taxis and tours. On our first night, a man knocked on our room door to offer a tour. That felt invasive and completely out of place. One of the worst experiences in Bali. If I could, I'd give it -5 stars, and I wouldn't recommend it even to my worst enemies.

The photos are deceiving. This was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at in Penida. The entrance was very hard to spot, hidden by a tree, and there was nobody around when we arrived. When someone finally showed up, they were rude, as if they thought we were thieves. The plants hadn't been trimmed and blocked the path to the room. Inside, the cabinet was dusty and full of spiderwebs, so dusty you could draw in it. The unplugged fridge was filthy and clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. There weren't enough outlets, and the ones behind the bed were hard to use, with one impossible to reach. There was no coffee, tea, or drinking water. The toilet seat was loose, the toilet door got stuck many times, and the bidet was damaged and lying on the floor. Mosquitoes were in the room, and without a toilet mat it was hard to keep the floor dry.

We arrived around 4 pm and a teenager told us our room was ready, but there was nobody else to coordinate with. The room hadn't been cleaned well and the bathroom looked very bad. The water pressure was poor, the shower head was broken, and the hot water ran out quickly. Animal noises woke us several times during the night, so it's not a good choice for light sleepers. In the morning a nice, respectful woman greeted us, but we still left with a bad impression. We didn't expect much for the price, but wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort and hygiene.

It's close to the harbor, but the place looked nothing like the online pictures. The room was really dirty: rusty hairs were still in the shower, as if it hadn't been cleaned in ages, and there were stains on the sheets and dirt on the floor. The staff didn't speak any English, which made communication difficult. From 7 pm onward, nobody was at reception. We were left alone with a question and no one to ask. :/
