Green Palace Homestay

This was the best homestay we've had so far on our low-budget trip through Indonesia. The owner and employees were kind and available whenever anything came up. Our room was super clean and cleaned every day, and the bathroom had good fresh water and sanitary items. Breakfast was delicious, and the banana Toast is a must! I got sick one day, and the staff were so caring and concerned about how I was doing. We also ordered food at the hotel that day and really enjoyed it. Thanks for a great stay!

Everything was really clean, and they even came in to clean after the first night though we were only there for two nights. The owner was so sweet and helped with whatever we needed. Towels, soap and shampoo were provided, and the air conditioning worked really well :)

The helpful staff can arrange activities, and the homestay itself has lovely architecture surrounded by lush, colorful plants. There are just four rooms, each with an outdoor terrace for meals or relaxing, plus a pool with a jacuzzi. Food stalls on either side are about a five-minute walk away. We had tasty babi guling, grilled fish, fried noodles and rice during our stay, and there’s also a nearby restaurant serving delicious Minang food. Mentigi beach is around a 15-minute walk, with clear water and colorful fish at high tide.

The pool was the one good thing for us. The rooms could use more cleaning and definitely some renovation. We left after three days of problems during what was meant to be a seven-day stay. After checking out, I asked Agoda for a refund, but the accommodation declined twice. I also messaged them directly and got no reply, even though we had photos and videos to support what seemed like a completely fair request. On our first night, the air conditioning was so loud and vibrated through the room. They offered another room, but it was the same, and since it was late we went to sleep, badly. The next day they showed us a different room that hadn't been cleaned, probably after someone had just checked out. That was kind of them, and the air conditioning worked, so we moved. Then we found the toilet wouldn't flush. Staff tried a plunger and it worked once, temporarily. That night we saw several huge cockroaches. My boyfriend tried to catch them and throw them out, but more kept appearing because there was a big gap in the back doors. Staff gave us duct tape to seal it. We were exhausted, so went to bed again and barely slept. By the next morning the toilet wouldn't flush at all, even though it had at least been draining slowly the evening before. We’d had enough, spoke to the woman on duty and checked out.
