Jona Bungalow

We left JONA BUNGALOW after a little over two nights, though we had booked four, because the problems kept piling up. The owner was dismissive and unhelpful, and the stay ruined part of our trip. Between the advertising, unsafe bike, missing amenities, dirty pool, construction noise, and the owner’s behavior, it wasn’t worth the money. The pool was always dirty and unusable. Our TV had no channels, and the minibar and hairdryer listed on Agoda were missing. Staff barely spoke English, so we had to type back and forth with Google Translate. The motorbike we asked to rent wasn’t available at first, and they told us to wait. When one arrived, it was old and unsafe, with terrible brakes. At 90k per day it cost more than proper rentals, and it felt like they were profiting from guests. We’d confirmed hot water before booking, but on the first night it stopped after two minutes and didn’t come back. The towels had holes, and the pillows were worn and uncomfortable. The owner included breakfast and, after we said we were vegans, offered rice, a few vegetables, tempeh, and tofu. We saw other guests had fruit, but wouldn’t have received any if we hadn’t asked. They also tried to limit us to one tiny bottle of water, despite advertising “free bottled water” on Agoda. We’d asked them not to clean our room while we were out, but they did anyway, making the bed and leaving the lights and AC on. When the person checking the showers came, they said it was “normal” for the hot water to cut off after a few minutes. If we’d been told that before booking, we’d never have chosen the place. On the second morning, loud construction woke us up, and nobody had warned us about it. Then we asked for the same breakfast as the day before and were told it wasn’t available. Staff said the owner had told them not to serve it as part of the free breakfast anymore, even though they had the ingredients. They refused to give us food we’d already been served unless we paid extra. It felt deliberate and discriminatory. We’d had enough and decided to leave. If you want to enjoy your time in Nusa Penida, spare yourself the trouble and don’t book JONA BUNGALOW.

The lighting in the room was so dim that I often needed my phone flashlight, and cleanliness didn’t match the photos. Breakfast was limited to two items per room, with no vegetarian options. Communication was difficult because English wasn’t spoken, so I had to use Google Translate.

The place feels isolated, and the housekeeping isn't proper. I wouldn't recommend visiting. It didn't feel safe for a family, and the rooms don't have proper attached bathrooms with locks.

The owner was very helpful and offered recommendations based on what we liked. For the overnight stay itself, keep expectations in line with the price: it's a decent place to sleep, nothing more. If you don't expect much from a hotel in Nusa Penida, you'll probably be happy. Ask for mosquito repellent.
