Wijaya Cottage Nusa Penida

The hotel sits high up the mountain, so a taxi costs 200k-300k to get there. The road is narrow and winding, and traffic still comes through because the island has so few roads. We found the stay comfortable enough, though a little overpriced for what was offered. Our room was clean and new, with a roomy outdoor bathroom. There’s no TV, which was fine, but there’s no fridge either. The shower’s hot water lasts about five minutes, so you have to be quick. The pool was okay but not as scenic as the photos, and with so few sunbeds we didn’t spend time there. Breakfast was poor, really only the pancakes were edible. The hotel’s restaurant recommendation around the corner wasn’t good either, so you’re better off driving into town.

The cottages don’t block all the sound, so at night you may hear loud scooters or cars honking, though it wasn’t enough to keep us awake. That’s the only downside I can think of. The place is otherwise new, clean, nicely decorated, with lovely gardens and thoughtful details. The staff are very sweet and attentive. The pool is stunning, with beautiful views and gardens, and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Breakfast is à la carte and needs to be ordered the evening before through WhatsApp. You can have it brought to your room or terrace, by the pool, or served in the canteen. They also rent scooters by the day for a very good price. Such a fantastic hotel and incredible value.

We only stayed two nights, but this was easily the best stay of our Bali trip. If I come back, I’d want to spend a whole week here. The staff were all so lovely, breakfast was delicious with good portions and a mix of Western choices, and our room looked just like the pictures. The outdoor shower was beautiful, and there were surprisingly few mosquitoes, a relief after being bitten throughout our two weeks in Bali. The accommodation is modern, clean, and peaceful, about 15 minutes from the town centre. The cottage had only opened a few months earlier, so we felt lucky to get one of the introductory prices. I can see why every review gives it five stars.

The villas are new and clean, and the staff are friendly. The location is good, with a restaurant just 30 m away, though you can also order food to your room. They offer floating breakfast too. The bathroom is open, but we didn’t have any mosquitoes or other animals in our room. I’d recommend staying here in Nusa Penida.
