We were shocked by how poorly kept the inside was. The exterior and location look lovely, but the room was dirty and full of ants and mosquitoes. There were insect droppings on the bed frame and sheets, and a tjiktjak in the room too. The bathroom was in bad shape. The shower was old, the sink wouldn't drain, and the walls were filthy. With no curtain and the shower spraying back into the room, everything got wet, and you had to hold the showerhead by hand and hope for the best. When we raised these problems, staff insisted nothing was wrong instead of admitting there was an issue. It felt like the place had been neglected ever since it was built. We stayed at a hotel for 80.000 rupiah that was much cleaner, with no ants or bugs. This did not feel like a 3 star hotel, and I wouldn't recommend staying here if you care about your health.

The setting brought back memories of Bali for me, with its Balinese ornaments and old-fashioned paths. The building is aging and the facilities are only okay, and I think the room could use renovation or better cleaning. At least the bathroom was clean, which matters a lot to me in an older hotel. I had a room beside the main road with a view of the beach, and watching the sunrise from the balcony felt like good value for the price. Pantai Timur is easy to reach, and there are plenty of local food places and little shops nearby. It's not modern or luxurious, but it has a traditional feel and a convenient spot by the beach.

I was a bit unsure after reading the reviews, but the room turned out lovely apart from the dated furniture. The king-sized bed was big, the water heater worked, and the air conditioning was nice and cold. Cleanliness could be better, and that might help cut down on the mosquitoes too.

We came here 27 years ago, and since then it seems there has been no furniture replacement, upkeep, or proper cleaning. Staff apologized when I complained, but it was obvious nobody cared. The bathroom was filthy all over, even above the door, just like in the photo, and the bed was covered in stains. The promo picture is badly misleading, and the entrance door says plenty about the state of the place. One word sums up our Sunrice Beach Hotel stay: filthy. Don't go.
