The one good thing was being able to park my bike right by the entrance. I’d paid for the whole week with no refund, but left on day two because the place was terrible. There were construction sounds from both sides, the internet was bad, the air conditioner didn’t work, and the power cut out a couple of times in one day. No proper blanket or even soap, and one towel was torn. The kitchen smell was nauseating, with someone frying something constantly. The pool was tiny and seemed purely decorative. Check-in also meant sitting at reception for half an hour. This is my fourth hotel in Bali, and I got unlucky with this one.

Made, the host, and his staff were kind and helpful, and I appreciated having two shared kitchens and free water refills. It’s a lovely place away from the busy main strip, with the nearest beach about a five-minute walk away and Batu Bolong roughly 20 minutes along the beach. Bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. The rice fields are beautiful, but you can hear animals at night. There’s a bit of construction across the road right now, though it usually doesn’t get going until around 8am.

We spent a month and a half here and had an amazing stay. Every day we could enjoy the sunset over the rice fields from the pool, and the beach is 600m away. The main activities in Canggu are within walking distance. It was clean and good value, and our amazing host helped us with everything during the trip.

Everything went well. The owner can bring a scooter right to your bungalow, which makes renting one easy. It’s a five-minute walk to the beach and about a 10-minute scooter ride into canggu city.
