Toraja Lodge Hotel

My guide, or maybe supervisor, was Oki. He was committed and professional, and shared his passion for his homeland and its unique traditions. He looked after me 24/7. At Toraja Lodge, I felt like an old friend rather than one guest among many, which made the stay a unique experience. The lodge is a small family hotel in the countryside near Rantepao. You can walk to the town center, with its restaurants and shops, in about 15 minutes, though I was always driven there. At sunrise, hundreds of roosters crow together. A little after 5:00 a.m., people wake to soft music before a pastor or priest leads morning prayers over loudspeakers. That’s Toraja. My room was big enough, simply but comfortably furnished. Breakfast on the terrace was simple, with omelets, pancakes and toast. The hotel also arranges tours, which makes sense in such a remote area.

I loved staying at Toraja Lodge Hotel for its hospitality and cleanliness. The owner, Yuli, and his son Oki are both kind and friendly. I’d recommend this hotel for a great Indonesian breakfast that you won’t regret.

My favourite stay in all Sulawesi! Juli was a kind, fun host who gave us useful tips and sorted everything out, from laundry and a trekking guide to a driver to the airport. The rooms were spotless, cozy and nicely decorated, and breakfast was great. We’d definitely come back.

We had a lovely stay. The owner and staff were super friendly and helpful. We asked for a guide to take us to the toraja-funeral, and the owner's son drove us around and showed us the area for a reasonable price. Super hotel, highly recommend!
