Even the breakfast was sparse and disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We booked the “lux room,” but the room and shared areas were dirty, with grime on surfaces and repairs left undone. The balcony and grounds were just as neglected and didn’t feel comfortable or safe. The bed and drawers were broken, with pieces loose or missing. Paint was peeling off damaged window frames and furniture, and there was mold and water damage on the ceiling by the air conditioner. The toilet was stained and looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned or maintained in a long time. I get that the price is really cheap, but I still expect basic hygiene. The condition of the place fell far short on cleanliness, maintenance, and comfort.

The sea view is lovely, especially at sunset, and you can walk to little shops and local restaurants nearby. Mahkota Kayong is well placed for that. The room itself is just okay for the price, though, and you could get better service elsewhere. There’s no hot water, which feels like a downgrade at this price. Don’t miss the sunset while you’re there.

I’ve stayed there three times since 2014, and it’s still the best in town. The atmosphere makes up for the fairly ordinary room, so pick one with a sea view, it’s really pretty. They’re flexible about check-in and check-out, which has helped me a lot. You can rent bicycles, and there’s laundry and massage service too. The breakfast is standard, but I appreciate that they’ll serve dinner when requested. Parking is spacious, and there are lots of interesting spots around the hotel.

For Kayong Utara, this is the best hotel I could get, especially for the location and service. Still, the rooms and facilities don’t quite match what you’d expect from another three-star hotel, and in a small town you can’t expect the usual big-city standards. In my room there was no warm water, the bathroom wasn’t very clean, and the waste pipe was open, so I could see the sea below. The old wooden floor creaked when I walked on it, and I could hear people talking outside the room, haha. There aren’t many other choices there, though.

For a small city, I think this is a good hotel. The room was good enough, and the sunset was beautiful. The bathroom was less comfortable because the floor was a little slippery and the drainage wasn’t good, but it wasn’t a big problem.
