I’m never staying here again. The whole hotel had been remodeled and refurnished, but the sheets were old and stained. The first room had dried blood on the pillow. I removed the pillowcase and found the same stain, in the same shape and place, on the pillow itself. The sheets were covered in stains, so we refused to stay in that room. A front desk worker showed us another room across the hall. I went straight to inspect the bed and found more blood stains. He said the sheets had been washed but the blood wouldn’t come out. That wasn’t true: I wet a spot with soap and the blood started coming off, as shown in the last two photos. There was also a larger, darker stain that didn’t look old. I don’t understand the reviews saying it’s clean. Maybe they showed us dirtier rooms because we’re foreigners? There were mosquitoes all over the room, buzzing by my ear and biting me at night, making it hard to sleep. The “lobby” looked clean and newly renovated, but felt cold, not cozy. Our room also had an old balloon left by a previous guest. The location was awful. Atom Mall and ITC “mall” are right next door, but there’s nothing to do there. They’re more like indoor markets, and Chinatown seemed very quiet and dead. Walking around at night felt scary. We’re only staying two nights, but even that feels long. I’d caution people to stay away.

The rooms are at a 3-4 star hotel standard, but the price is very affordable. This newly renovated heritage hotel is in a strategic spot, near Pasar Atom, old-town business areas, and several places serving authentic Surabaya food.
