Nite & Day Surabaya - Gunungsari

For a really tight budget, I'd stay here again. The price is cheap, breakfast is included, and it was pretty good. I liked the fried rice and bread, though the only jam options were pineapple and butter ceres. Orange juice was also available. We booked two rooms; one toilet had a bad smell from the water, but it eventually went away. The rooms aren't large, though at this price those issues felt manageable. Sorry, I forgot to take photos.

The pictures were misleading: everything except the lobby photos seemed to show suites or be false, and I didn't get a suite. My room was small, with two small single beds, medium to large by local standards. Dust covered the tables and floor, there was a cigarette in the toilet, and the room smelled of smoke despite our request for a non-smoking room or floor. The walls were thin enough that I could hear people snoring next door. Replacing towels costs money, and I couldn't even be sure they were changed between guests. The service quality didn't justify the high price.

An easy check-in and check-out, with service that's fair for the price range. They strictly followed the health protocol and required guests to check in through the Peduli Lindungi app. It's suited to a solo traveler or backpacker needing a room for a day or two. The hallway was dim, with little sunlight and minimal lighting. Even in the lowest room class, you get two bottles of mineral water and free amenities.

A decent place, with affordable prices and a strategic location. Having private parking spaces is always a nice bonus.
