Providence Homestay

I’m a big fan of a good bed, and I loved this one. The room was neat, the air conditioner worked well, and the people were welcoming. For the price, this place is awesome. I’d been looking for somewhere low-budget in Surabaya and couldn’t find anything better. Definitely coming back :))

I'm staying here now. The place is clean and good value, but the service has been the worst I've experienced in eight years of traveling. When I arrived, I was polite to the receptionist and he seemed fine. I told him a friend would visit, and he said that was okay. But once my friend arrived, his attitude changed completely. He was rude and disrespectful, knocking very hard on the door every five minutes, almost as if he wanted to break it. He kept telling us we couldn't stay, though we already knew that and were only talking. He wouldn't accept that explanation and acted like religious police. I tried to calmly explain that my friend was visiting and we weren't staying together. After my friend left, I told him not to get angry with a customer, that I'd come to stay and not to fight with him. He replied, “Oh, do you want to fight?” He pointed at me and kept asking, “Do you wanna fight?” I've never had an experience like this in eight years of traveling around the world. He called the boss and said something, so I wanted to discuss the problem with the boss, but the call was just hung up. Then he said sorry, but it didn't feel sincere. I've met a lot of people and can usually tell when someone is acting. One of the worst experiences of my life, after racism at praha orange guest house.

There’s no hot water, though the bathroom itself is okay. The place felt rather creepy to me, so I wouldn’t recommend it for families. The location shown on the map is off; it’s a bit farther south. From the main road, enter the commercial complex, pass happy puppy karaoke and continue straight along the side. The homestay is in the farthest corner.

It was hard to locate because the map doesn't match the actual place, so you may need to ask someone nearby who knows it. Privacy is limited too, since people in the next room can hear you talking. Toothbrushes and toothpaste aren't provided unless you ask reception, and Wi-Fi only reaches some rooms. On the plus side, the price is cheap enough, and the room and bathroom are clean and decent for what you pay. Hot water is available, and there's hot mineral water for making tea or coffee. You'll need to bring tea and other things yourself. Food is available too.
