Sans Hotel Box Mansion Surabaya

Works well as a transit hotel and seems worth it for a business trip too. I wouldn't choose it for a family trip.

The location sits down shady alleys with terrible traffic. Cleanliness and room size were both average, and they wouldn't even let me check out early. The staff clearly don't know how to handle hospitality. The service was dogshi. Don't bother with this one, you're welcome.

The morning front desk told us checkout could be at 12:30 pm. When the staff changed, we were charged 50k rupiah and told the latest checkout was 12:00 pm. They didn't apologize or let us know when the time was up. There was never any greeting from the staff, either, and the room had no tissue, telephone, breakfast, or sandals. The service was poor, like a typical one-star or lower hotel. There are plenty of budget hotels in surabaya that are more acceptable and worth the money.

I couldn't sleep at all. The walls were paper thin, and voices outside sounded like they were coming from the bathroom. There was also a constant water noise from the lobby fountain. I asked them to turn it off, and they did, but then at 4 am they turned it back on. It felt unbearable, like someone was trying to drive me crazy. There were so many mosquitoes that they bit me all over in the first 30 minutes. Kill one and two more show up. I was worried about dengue fever in Surabaya. After three hours of trying to sleep, I ended up fully dressed with my head under the sheet, then tried lying down sitting up like on a plane with my hood over my head. There were no blankets, just a light sheet. The room was dirty in spots, with a long stranger's hair on the bed. After those last two huge problems, I had to give the hotel the lowest rating. It's horrible.
