The restaurant has good menu options compared with the food stalls nearby. It's about ten minutes from the airport, with Asian buffet breakfast and plenty of parking. Rates are around 20-30 bucks a night.

Room 505 had a nice view over Tarakan town, and the room itself was clean, roomy, and fully equipped. The location was very good, and breakfast had a good variety. The air conditioning was the one problem: it didn't work well, so we were sweating overnight.

For a Tarakan stopover, Royal was a comfortable option at a reasonable price. The business room starts at IDR 500k, and the hotel is maybe ten minutes from Juwata International Airport. Breakfast is served very early, which is handy before a morning flight. The hot water wasn't very hot in the morning, but all in all, it was worth it.
