Umakelod Sebatu Villas

I spent two weeks here in complete serenity, a lovely break from busy days in Ubud. The village people are extremely kind, and the staff were welcoming. The Wi-Fi was weak, but they gave me a router. Laundry was very affordable and excellent. The food wasn’t the best, though there are great restaurants nearby with incredible jungle views. I walked to most of the waterfalls, and even the tiny roads were beautiful for morning walks. The main annoyance was how thin the walls are. I could hear the neighbours clearly, which got bothersome, so I spent most of my time listening to podcasts or music on headphones.

The staff were helpful and responsive, and at least the hot water worked well. Still, the Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, which was a big letdown when connectivity matters for a comfortable stay. The property also needs significant upkeep, with moss patches and peeling walls visible. The outdoor bathroom has no roof, and during rainy season it made showering or using the bathtub uncomfortable. We couldn’t enjoy the tub. Noise from the neighboring room came through very clearly, too. Getting there was difficult: Google Maps sent us through Tampaksiring on a narrow, steep, winding road. There’s another route via Tegalalang, but the property is still far from most attractions and conveniences. Umakelod has a nice concept, but several things need improvement before the stay feels enjoyable. I’d rate this experience 2.5 out of 5.

The rice fields and peaceful atmosphere make this a beautiful place, with a swimming pool and lush landscaping as well. My room felt homey, though cleanliness could be improved. The staff were friendly, but no one was available at the property when I checked out.

My room faced a rice field, and at night the cicadas, frogs, and their friends provided the soundtrack. There’s an outdoor bathroom if that’s your thing, and the whole place feels like raw Bali wilderness. With all the lush vegetation, it has a very much at-home feeling. Easy come, easy go, in a good way.
