Mas Cottages

We used cottage 12 in Mas cottages as a base for exploring the island for a week. It’s on the second floor, set back from the lakeside accommodation, and the balcony has a beautiful view, especially early and late in the day. Daytime was noisy with jet skis, and sound carried a lot when guests were in the next room. Inside, there was plenty of space for two and it was clean, with lovely fluffy towels. There was no fridge, room safe, AC, or fan, though the lake breeze kept it cool enough. Staff were helpful, particularly Dani, who sorted out parking, a bit of a challenge. We had a nice meal delivered to the room, and the laundry service was okay.

For a relaxing break, the hotel’s spot right on the lake is hard to beat, with a stunning view and a standard room that had what we needed plus a balcony facing the water. There’s a restaurant at the hotel, with other restaurants and cafes within walking distance. General facilities like a supermarket or pharmacy are farther away. You can reach the hotel by motorbike from the ferry station, or arrange for a ferry to pick you up directly there for an extra 70k rupiah. One of the most amazing places I’ve visited.

We had a good stay in the new wing, where the rooms were very clean. Our lake view room had a lovely balcony for relaxing, and there was a hot shower, water cooler, and some coffee and tea waiting when we arrived. Most of the staff were friendly and tried to help. A few didn’t speak English, but they still made an effort despite being shy. They even found our lost flip flops, which made us happy. Breakfast had lots of choices. We especially loved the avocado toast and the fruit platter, topped with ground coconut and cocoa. It would be nice if the rooms were cleaned and beds made daily. The very bright lights could be replaced with softer ones, and some local art on the walls would add a nice touch.

The view is amazing and the location is really nice. The rooms are good, but would be more comfortable with a fan or air conditioner. I’d also have liked two pillows per person instead of one.
