De Munut Balinese Resort & Spa

The grounds are immaculate, the pools are relaxing, and the whole place has an enchanting atmosphere. I spent 10 days at this beautiful resort in De Munut, and the people and service were amazing. Breakfast and coffee were divine too. I tried everything on the menu and liked every single thing. I’m planning to come back next year.

The location is ideal if you want to stay near Ubud’s tourist attractions, and there are plenty of nearby restaurants. The pool was nice and clean, and seemed like nobody used it. The property also doesn’t feel crowded, which is good if you want somewhere quiet. There are quite a few problems, though. The property needs serious maintenance. Towels smelled and should be cleaned better, the door locks sometimes jam, and there’s no lock on the bathroom. The phone doesn’t work, so you have to go down to reception to ask for room service. There’s no in-house kitchen, only breakfast, and the breakfast menu is very small. The bathroom is open to the outside, which didn’t feel safe or private for women, and it attracts insects. At night it felt creepy. I also saw a huge lizard, around 9-10 inches, hanging around the shower area, and it scared me for a moment. They could have closed the bathrooms off with glass.

There’s a lot of construction nearby, and the bathroom wasn’t the cleanest. Alchemy and Zest are within walking distance, though.

The location is the best part, quite close to Ubud Market. The property itself looks great, but after three days here, I found the hygiene very poor. It needs renovation and better housekeeping, and doesn’t look like the pictures. Our first room was in rough shape, with stained bedsheets, cobwebs, insects, and stained pots. We asked to change rooms, and they moved us the next day. The second room was a little better, but not much. There’s no in-house restaurant, and the food quality was poor. They did clean as best they could after we complained, but the property still felt unmaintained and unhygienic. I wouldn’t recommend it.
