Desak Putu Putera Cottages

We only spent one night here, and wished we'd stayed longer instead of heading farther into the jungle to another hotel. It's a fantastic base for exploring Ubud on foot at your own pace. The staff were wonderful, spoke good English, and made communication easy. The food was fabulous. Highly recommend.

The shower had strong pressure and hot water, and getting around the steps between the road, units, restaurant, and pool was quite manageable. Our ground-floor room had sliding doors opening outside, so ants, bugs, and mosquitoes got in. We found them on the walls and floor, and sometimes ants were on the bed. The air conditioning was quiet even at full power but couldn't beat the afternoon heat, and it switched itself off randomly day and night, so we got pretty warm. The unit included breakfast, which was fine but repetitive after several days. It's set back from the road, which keeps things quiet apart from roosters and people upstairs moving furniture. The main Ubud street and southern side streets are an easy walk away. The area is very touristy now, with just about anything within a 20-minute walk.

The room had a terrible smell that we couldn't get rid of, and there were lots of stains on the mattress covers and blankets. For the price, it wasn't worth it, especially because of the odor, and the place needs an upgrade. There were some good points: breakfast had plenty of options, the pool was fairly large and relatively clean, and the property had lots of plants that gave it privacy.

It's a solid, quiet hotel with a decent pool. The room is large, and the bathroom is massive. The shower head needs replacing, the TV didn't work properly, and I wish we'd been told there was construction going on by the pool. I'd still stay here again without hesitation.
