Gerindem Cottages

The kitchen was the worst part. It was so filthy that I wouldn't feed the food made there to an animal. I won't post photos, but it was worse than you can imagine. Honestly, a shame. Our rooms were also disgusting. We had all four rooms upstairs, so this wasn't just one room, and I didn't photograph everything. There were spiders and other pests everywhere, and the dirt looked like it had been there for a long time, not just left by the previous guest. The sheets had bad stains and looked unchanged. We asked for a proper clean, but came back to find only the spots we had pointed out cleaned and the sheets replaced. The service was fine, but that wasn't enough. This was a real disappointment on our trip. It's not the worst accommodation ever, but I don't see how it deserves five stars in any way, and I doubt some of the good reviews. We left early and found a much better place in Ubud for one night, The Gerindem Cottages, at the same price. I could say more and add pictures, but I don't want to tear the place down. Judge for yourself.

The bed was excellent, and we couldn't hear road noise from the room, though sounds passed easily between rooms because the walls had poor sound insulation. The bathroom was dirty, and breakfast was minimal. People were friendly, as they usually are in Bali. We rented a scooter from them, but it had a major failure twice and they didn't answer the phone when we needed help.

We spent seven days here midway through our Bali trip and had a great stay. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a balcony and pool area. Staff were consistently kind and helpful. It's a peaceful spot, about 10-15 minutes from Ubud centre, with plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby and easy transport to and from. We'd definitely stay again.

The staff made this place a highlight for us. Kadek was wonderful, always smiling and ready to help, and the other woman working there was lovely too. She even took my young son for a ride down the road on her scooter. The driver took us to the medical facility and waited for over an hour, happy to help and not expecting payment. The place is close to everything but still quiet and peaceful. Our room was comfortable, the pool was great, and we enjoyed the food at the on-site restaurant. A 10/10 stay.
