Huts Rock Ubud

The rooms are really spacious, and the location makes it quick to get to ubud center by motorbike. There are also small markets and restaurants within walking distance. The huge statue beside the pool caught my eye, and the rest of the place looks amazing and is extremely clean. The family hosting us were so nice, it felt like home. 150% recommended. I’d definitely stay again when I’m back.

With only a handful of rooms, the hotel feels private and stays nice and quiet, away from the main roads but still close enough to get into Ubud. The compound is impressive, especially the huge statue head at its center, and the room doors are really cool. Our room was comfortable, with hot water, working AC, and a fridge. The staff were warm and welcoming, and renting a scooter was super easy. I really enjoyed being in such a cool place.

We hosted a women’s retreat here and loved our stay. The villa is impressive, in a traditional Balinese style, and the amenities were great. They even helped us find yoga mats. Su and sany cooked for us many of the days, and the food was delicious, though they had a little trouble accommodating one vegan guest, so we ordered in for her. The pool with the Buddha is beautiful. Town is about 20 minutes away by scooter, and Monkey Forest is 10 minutes away. Across from us, huts rock is a bar run by a very sweet man, and we all went for drinks there one night.

This review is ONLY about Ari, the host of this villa. I booked the 9-bedroom property for my group in November 2024. After I sent an inquiry, Ari told me only eight bedrooms would be available because an elderly couple would be using the ninth. Ari offered a 5% discount on the total to make up for it. When my group checked in in March 2025, we were choosing rooms and a staff member told me the ninth bedroom was open. I was surprised, but accepted because it worked well for us and was what I’d originally requested. Two days later, several staff members contacted me on Ari’s behalf about paying for that room through Wise. Looking at the invoice, I saw Ari was charging the current daily rate for the ninth bedroom. The villa is listed as having nine bedrooms, and rooms aren’t sold separately. I asked Ari to honor the original price difference of 5% from my November 2024 booking. Ari got angry and threatened to hold me and my group HOSTAGE, bragging about being able to hold people hostage if they don’t pay. I was willing to pay the 5% difference, but Ari insisted on the new daily rate and kept messaging me in what felt like an attempt to intimidate me. Ari had asked for payment through Wise to a bank account. Since paying outside Airbnb is against its policy, I contacted Airbnb for help. They told me I owed neither the villa nor Ari any more money because the listing was advertised as a 9-bedroom property. For hours, Ari used different scare tactics to try to make me pay the overcharge. I was even threatened with security showing up if I didn’t pay by a certain time. That was frightening, especially in another country. Despite all the intimidation, I was still willing to pay the 5% difference from November 2024 directly to Airbnb. Ari’s greed overshadowed how wonderful the staff are and put a big damper on my birthday trip. I’d advise people to book other villas with hosts who use common sense, follow policies and guidelines, and respect the law. International travelers, stay far away. Your safety could be in jeopardy. The rooms were also very musty from the heat. Water pressure and temperature were hit or miss depending on the room, and neither the WiFi nor the televisions worked during our stay. On a positive note, the staff at the Hut Rock are amazing and very attentive. I hate that they’re associated with this villa.
