Kubu Loris Residence

The room was lovely and the bathroom was fine, though the toilet seat looked old and grubby at first. It turned out to be an old seat that was actually clean. Breakfast was tasty, mainly eggs or omelette on toast and fruit platters, with a hot or cold drink. You fill in a form the night before, and they bring it to you between 7:30 and 11:00, I believe. Service was very good. The Wi-Fi in our room was pretty bad, so we had to use mobile data there. It worked well outside the room and near the pool, but it rained every day, so sitting outside to book things wasn’t really an option. The pool itself had quite a few leaves and bits of debris in it, and we didn’t see anyone swimming. The area around it was very pretty and full of nature, which might explain it. It was about an eight minute walk to the main road, then perhaps another ten to the other main road. We knew that and were happy to walk. The accommodation also runs a bike rental place next door, 80k per day, and a laundry next to that, though I can’t remember the price. I’d stay again.

The staff were really nice, and the balcony had a pleasant view over a calm setting. The location is close to the centre, although access by car can be tricky because only one side is reachable. We sometimes walked about a minute to the scooter path to get picked up. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. The room wasn’t very clean, with mold in the bathroom, hair in the shower, and dirty corners. I don’t know if the other bathrooms were better, but one without an openable window or air conditioning is sure to get humid. The shower took ages because the water pressure was very low. Internet worked only some of the time, I think. It’s cheap, but I wouldn’t want to stay for long.

The staff were great, and if you order the night before, they bring the included breakfast to the table outside your room in the morning. The bed was comfortable and the room had good light. We didn’t use the pool, though it looked nice. It’s about a ten minute walk to Ubud centre, far enough away to be quiet while still offering good value. The bedroom felt a little cramped, and the sliding doors were tricky to lock. I also wished the rain shower had a handheld head. Those were small drawbacks, and we had a good stay.

The room was a decent size, with a big bathroom, a comfortable bed, and everything clean. Breakfast was included and tasty. There’s a small pool, plus a seating area above reception. The location is good, and I’d recommend staying here. The drains in the bathroom got very smelly, something I’ve noticed in a lot of lower priced hotels across southeast Asia. I would have liked a handheld shower alongside the rain shower. Also, when the room was cleaned, the net curtains were left open, so people walking past could see into the room and spot our things. More privacy would have made me more comfortable.
