Bhuwana Ubud Hotel and Farming

The hotel’s restaurant was excellent, one of the best we tried. We loved the stay even through 48 hours of constant rain, which was unusual in the dry season. It made us think how lovely the place must be in sunny weather. The rice fields around the resort are beautiful and make everything feel peaceful. The rooms look lovely, though the mattress was quite firm and not very comfortable. It’s only a few minutes by car from Ubud. The hotel runs a shuttle to town at certain times, but it isn’t walkable for most people. If you’re a strong walker, it’s about 3 km, along a busy road with no sidewalks. The staff were a real highlight. We got to practise both Balinese and Indonesian with them, and shared lots of laughs and smiles. It was unforgettable.

The breakfast came as a set, with one main course and a drink to choose from, while the side dishes were already laid out. The pool is right in front of the restaurant and was nice. Monkey Forest and Ubud market are fairly close, around 8-10 minutes by Grab. I stayed three nights, and choosing this place was a great decision. It had the calm, secluded feel I wanted in Ubud. The room was large, with a balcony where you could relax or smoke. I’d booked twin beds, but they weren’t available. The staff offered an extra bed at no extra charge, and there was still plenty of room. If I get the chance to visit Ubud again, I’ll stay here.

The grounds are lovely and the pool’s a relaxing place to spend time. Staff were really warm and welcoming. The bathroom could use some work and let the place down, but I had a great experience overall.

The restaurant served the same menu each day. The food was enjoyable, especially to start the day, but it got repetitive and I would’ve liked more variety. I loved the hotel’s location and atmosphere, and the property was otherwise well maintained. My main issue was the room ventilation: there were no exhaust vents, and a damp smell lingered on the bedding and was especially strong in the bathroom, making it unpleasant to use. The staff were very accommodating and tried to help, though there was only so much they could do. Management should consider fixing the ventilation.
