The main problem was the owner. If they want to run a business, they should keep him away from the hotel guests. The place does have clean rooms, a nice garden, a good location, a reasonable price, and breakfast that was good for what it cost. But I could hear everything from the people in the next room, and the rooster started up in the morning and kept going for a few hours. Still, the owner was the most annoying part.

The garden is beautiful and the place is quiet, with a big room. The people running the homestay were nice, but they really need to take more care with cleaning. I left on the second day even though I’d booked three nights. The smell from the bed was like men’s perfume and sweat. At first I focused on the odor, then the next day I opened the bed and found blood stains on the pillows and sheets. There was also a lot of white dust on the walls, and the bathtub wasn’t clean either.

It’s easy to walk to the city centre from here, with little shops and restaurants nearby. The street isn’t busy, so traffic noise is low. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was glad to find coffee, tea, hot water, and cups in the morning, and they brought hot water again one afternoon so we could make tea. The room was comfortable and practical, with several lights, blackout and white privacy curtains, furniture, and nightstands. It was clean, and I checked for bed bugs. The mattress looked great. The bathroom rugs were the only things that seemed a little dirty. It could get pretty loud, especially in the mornings. There were roosters, the cute dog chico barking, toddlers playing, construction next door, and upstairs neighbors stomping on the stairs. The wifi was weak at times and kept cutting out. The sliding door made a loud creak whenever we opened it. Its lock didn’t work, so you had to use a padlock from outside and a flimsy bathroom style lock from inside. We didn’t feel unsafe, but the proper lock should be repaired.

Breakfast is a must here, with absolutely delicious food and generous portions. The staff were consistently helpful, attentive, and friendly, and the garden setting is lovely. It’s a bit overgrown, which adds to its charm. The location is excellent, just an easy five minute walk to central Ubud. The bed is massive, though the kitchen is tiny and the bathroom basic. Sometimes the water smells a bit, but it clears and runs clean after a while. It’s VERY noisy. There’s a scooter parking area next door that’s in use day and night. The walls are thin and the ceiling space is open, so you hear everything your neighbors say and do.
