For the price, this was a really good deal. The room smelled clean, the sheets were fresh, and the bed didn’t have one of those blankets that seems to get washed infrequently at places in the same price range. There’s no AC, but the fan was fine in December. The street was quiet and central, and I loved having a flask of hot water outside the room all day. I didn’t try breakfast.

It was awful. The room smelled like a toilet, and the shower barely had any water. Noise went on from early morning until late at night, including children and a baby, household sounds, phone noise, and motorcycles riding in front of the room.

The room was spacious, with a very comfortable mattress and pillows, and the homestay is well away from the busy street. The people were genuinely warm. In the morning I could watch them replace the offerings at the tiny shrine outside my room, and even the doormat had its own little offering. Breakfast was lovely, a big bowl of fresh fruit and a freshly made omelette with toast still hot from roasting.

It’s clean and inexpensive, and the family make you feel comfortable. But their two children start screaming around 6 AM, so you can’t get back to sleep. Eventually you just give up and get up.

Such a lovely family hosting us, and it really felt like home. A calm place to relax, sleep, and leave the door open. Enjoy the old, natural way of life.
