Teba House

I need a second key for my room lock. A friend sometimes comes by, and I might not hear him knock. He's reputable and I depend on him for a lot. I'm hoping to meet the owner tomorrow and get my concerns sorted. I also can't find information about breakfast, which I believe was included. The grounds are beautiful, and I'm looking forward to reading and working on my book. The staff member here has been very good about trying to help, including getting me extra chargers and WiFi, though I lose the internet too often. I have concerns about the poor air conditioning and hope it can be improved or that I can move rooms. My mattress is very uncomfortable. I'm 83 and have disabilities, and being legally deaf makes communication with the one staff person harder. I'm also unhappy there is no staff on the property from 9 PM until 9 AM the next morning. The location was a highlight, close to Ubud center, good restaurants, and two excellent coffee shops on the same street. Breakfast came with the room and was served from 8 to 10 AM. My room was clean, comfortable, quiet, and had air conditioning. Daily room service was available whenever needed. Wayan and Eris were incredibly attentive and friendly, and communication was excellent throughout. I arrived late for check-in, but someone was still there to help, and they arranged airport pick-up too. I was pleasantly surprised by Teba House and had a great stay.

We ended up finding other lodging early in the stay, for a similar price. I travel around India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, and don't need fancy accommodation, but based on this experience I can't recommend the place at this time. The rooms didn't seem properly cleaned or maintained. Units were falling apart, some doors wouldn't lock, and there was mould and poor bathroom hygiene. The family surprisingly blamed us guests for the room's condition, which left us confused. Their photos seem to be at least five years old, I can only assume. There was a lot of denial until we showed digital proof of our Deluxe room and breakfast bookings. The place is in central Ubud and has beautiful architecture. It seems family-run, which is usually endearing, but that wasn't enough to make this a good stay. They speak a little English, so we needed Google Translate for meaningful conversations, especially when explaining facility problems. They didn't contact us online before arrival to welcome us, which by itself isn't a problem, but communication issues became clearer when we needed to complain or make changes. Even the booking companies seemed unable to reach them. I'm also curious who's replying to Google reviews for Teba house, since the English is excellent and the replies sound very accommodating, unlike the onsite representative.

Wayan is such a kind person, one of the kindest I've ever met. He's calm and has a grateful soul. I asked to switch rooms, and he helped make it happen for me :)
